Trying out Testnet

Completely new to cryptocurrency and derivative trading? You can learn how to trade without any real funds, right on our test-net. We’ll guide you every step of the way.

What is testnet?

A testnet is an alternative blockchain that runs parallel to mainnet. With a few minor technical differences, a testnet most closely mimics the blockchain behaviour of mainnet. The testnet is like a sandbox replica of the actual blockchain, and allows users to perform the same actions, such as sending and receiving SWTH, creating a wallet address, and margin-trading on futures.

The main difference is that tokens on the Testnet are not the “actual” tokens that are considered to have real monetary value.

Testnet tokens can never cross-over to the mainnet and vice versa. This allows developers to carry out testing without actually putting their “real” tokens at risk.

To begin, confirm that you have selected network “Testnet"

Connect your wallet through Ledger, MetaMask, or an Encrypted Key. You can also try creating a Carbon account.

If you’re using MetaMask, please make sure you are connected to the Ropsten Test Network

You will need ETH (remember, this ETH on testnet has no monetary value!) to connect your wallet. Head down to the Ropsten Ethereum Faucetarrow-up-right to request for ETH.

You now have a brand new Demex account on testnet!

While a testnet account technically carries no value, it is advisable to ensure your password is different from your mainnet account, and that you do not confuse the two

Getting your test tokens

Before you begin trading, you first need to fund your account with test tokens.

Reach out to our community managers on our telegram channel: @carbon_ecosystem. They will link you to members of our team who will send you the testnet tokens.

Do note a few things:

  1. When you trade, you are trading against other testnet users

  2. On perpetual markets, the mark price is programmed to fluctuate widely. This is so users can experience multiple trading scenarios.
