# Running a Node

Setting up a Demex node allows you to interact with the L1 chain within your own infrastructure in a reliable manner.

If you wish to become a validator for Demex, running a full node is also required.

We recommend that you begin with a [Testnet](https://3548599389-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MO-XZjWplLUJPNs07G8%2Fuploads%2FgyP9cjzAbJds5H2ZfsLk%2Ftestnet?alt=media) node first. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the process and test your interactions in a controlled environment.
